Why DearKFriend?
Born in Seoul, I spent many years living abroad as a foreigner. Facing language and cultural barriers, unable to find even simple information — the memory of desperately wishing for just a small gesture of help from a local is still vivid.
When I returned to Korea, it was no longer the Korea I remembered. There were so many more foreigners. And in them, I saw my own past self — the person I was when I lived abroad.
I ended up in Pohang — a city with the sea and mountains, full of places to see and things to eat. Busan, Korea's second city, and Gyeongju, the thousand-year-old ancient capital, were just next door. There were even more foreigners here. Yet I felt sorry watching them miss out on so much because of the language barrier, relying only on overseas search engines.
So we built it. Not Google — a place where real local Koreans answer directly. Foreigners can ask in any language, and Koreans answer in Korean. Every question and answer is translated into 4 languages. Korean is no longer a barrier. It's also an opportunity for Koreans. Your shop, your neighborhood, your experience — introduced directly to travelers worldwide, without language barriers.
Foreigners get real local information. Koreans share their shops and experiences with the world. We hope to be helpful to both local communities and foreign visitors — without language barriers.
Welcome to Korea!
